Help at the Appliance Recycling Event!

The Medeiros Crew Appliance Recycling is back!  On Saturday, April 21, from 9am to 1pm, volunteers are needed to help community members recycle appliances at Spence Farm.  This is a great opportunity to get 4 community service hours!  For more information, please contact Rodney Flynn at FVirgos01801@aol.com

 

Woburn City Soccer Program looking for Volunteers!

Come volunteer at the City of Woburn Soccer Shack!  Volunteers are needed every Saturday for the soccer season.  Volunteers are needed to keep the shack up and running for the players and keep fees low for the parents.  You get to pick which Saturday and the shift!  To volunteer, email soceershack@gmail.com the date that you would like to volunteer and the shift that you are interested in.  Shifts are: 10am-12pm, 11am-1pm, 12pm-2pm, 2pm-3:30pm.

Do you have a skill to teach?

NuPath Inc. is looking for volunteers to teach classes to adults living with developmental disabilities.  This is a great opportunity to share your talent with others and make a difference in the lives of the individuals we serve.  Examples of classes needed are: photography, painting, money management, computer skills, cooking, etc. (the sky is the limit!)
Classes can be held during weekdays, evenings, or weekends depending on the volunteer’s schedule.  Although availability for multiple classes is preferred, we will gladly accommodate a volunteer who want to teach a one-time class.

Hospice Volunteers Needed

Do you have the Heart of Hospice? Become a Beacon Hospice volunteer.

A hospice volunteer offers companionship, support, a helping hand to patients with terminal illnesses. No matter who you are, you have something to offer hospice patients. You can make a profound difference in a person's life whether it is a 15 minute visit, writing letters, playing music, or just sitting quietly, holding a patient's hand. Volunteers play an integral role in Beacon Hospice's team approach to care that focuses on comfort, dignity and peace for the patient and their family.

Volunteers must complete a comprehensive training program and receive on-going support. The next training begins on Thursday, March 1, from 6-9pm at the Charlestown office. Other training times/locations are available.

Meals on Wheels Drivers Needed in Woburn

Do you have an hour to spare each week? Homebound seniors need your help. The Woburn Meals on Wheels program is in great need of drivers. Meals on Wheels is a long-standing national program serving mid-day meals to our most vulnerable seniors. The seniors are so grateful for your time. Just the brief interaction improves their health and well-being. And drivers report finding their work very meaningful. YMCA Childcare Help Needed

The North Suburban YMCA is a family center, and that means there are a lot of kids in the building every day. Our babysitting room, Child Watch, offers parents a safe and fun place to leave their children while they exercise or take other children to Y classes. If you like to play with kids and help with crafts and activities, this opportunity is right for you! We particularly need help in the morning hours (8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or any time in between).

Marketing/Graphics at SCI

Description: Work with SCI staff members to create marketing materials and layouts used for upcoming SCI sponsored events. Materials include flyers, press releases, and pamphlets. 

Requirements: Access to a computer. Able to work on a deadline. Creativity and good communication skills. Some knowledge of computer graphic software, familiarity with web design or prior experience in an art and layout background is highly desired. Having drawing ability is helpful. Most important is a sincere desire to help encourage youth to become civically active and unite communities. Interested candidates of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to apply!

Office Aide at SCI
Description: Assist in administrative duties which include, but are not limited to: mail processing, filing, data entry, photocopying, and/or phone work follow up, and any other special projects based on skill level. Some office tasks can be performed at home based on availability. 

Requirements: Experience with and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Access a plus. Limited free office and computer training can be provided if interest is there. Dependability, timely, and adheres to confidentiality regulations. Access to a computer with Microsoft Office (if volunteering from home).

WREN's Weekly Horn Pond Walks Make a Difference- -Saturdays 9-11a.m.
Join WREN's weekly walks around Horn Pond in Woburn! Enjoy the view, watch for birds and other wildlife, and meet others who appreciate and care about Woburn's natural areas, while helping us keep the area beautiful for everyone to enjoy.

Meet WREN members Rod Flynn, Lisa Weiss and others on Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m. We start off at 9:10 a.m. from Ice House Park on Sturgis St.

YMCA Special Events
 The North Suburban Y hosts many seasonal and themed events for members and families. These are an easy and fun way to get involved if you don’t have time to make an ongoing commitment to volunteering. Activities range from holiday parties to sports events, where we need volunteers for set-up/clean-up, registration, facilitating crafts and activities, and various other projects. Seeking Marketing Assistant
The marketing assistant will provide guidance and assistance in the marketing of new products for the vocational department (Mercantile store and products), as well as, work on a marketing plan for the employment department. Position looking to be filled by a volunteer roughly ten hours a week, but some tasks can be performed at home.

Qualifications: Able to use a computer, some experience promoting and advertising events and products, and some public speaking experience necessary.

Paparazzi Wanted!
Love taking pictures? Want to help others learn how to capture special moments in their life on film? Come to NuPath and share your hobbies with a group of individuals with developmental disabilities who love to take pictures and create DVDs of their most exciting moments.

Qualifications: Interest in photography, desire to make a difference and enthusiasm! Must be available once a week, for at least an hour for a minimum of three months.

Literacy Instructors Needed at the YMCA International Learning Center
The YMCA International Learning Center is looking for positive, patient people with respect for other cultures to support our work with teaching immigrants English. Volunteers will be guided by a literacy instructor as they work in a small group setting helping immigrants improve their written literacy skills. An interview with the YMCA International Learning Center literacy instructor is required.

Description: Research community events, gatherings, and meeting happening in Woburn.  Write up a description about what occurred, who to contact for more information, etc.  Also, identify community resources throughout local organizations that can help other citizens of Woburn. Contact organizations and obtain comprehensive information about their offerings, products and services. Enter new resources and update existing resources on the SCI website.

Work can be done at home

Requirements: Access to a computer with internet capability. Ability to think creatively and to explore resources of value.  Ability to communicate effectively over the phone and to interact professionally with community organizations, chapter staff and other volunteers.   Strong attention to detail, and ability to enter data accurately. Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft applications and the Internet. Experience with website updating and posting a plus, however, if able to come into the SCI Woburn office a brief tutorial can be provided about how to post blog entries to the SCI Woburn webpage.
