Neighborhood Day Wrapup: Goodyear Pride Day
There were approximately 15 adults/parents/staff from the school and neighborhood around Goodyear and 25 children of various ages throughout the event. The balance of the work involved pruning a few of the trees, removing weeds and overgrowth that had overtaken some of the chain link fences. Au Bon Pain on Washington Street provided beverages and pastries for the volunteers. We spread 5 yards of play surface mulch that had been donated over the play areas to bring up the levels and improve safety and appearance. We primed 4 sheets of plywood to get them ready to replace the 2 murals that have graced the Montvale Avenue side of the Goodyear School for more than 20 years. We removed a broken basketball hoop and a neighbor of the school, Rick Hawley, welded and repainted it. We were able to re-hang it the same day so the children could use it on Monday. A new one has been ordered to replace the missing one.
