council of social concern

The summer months present a special challenge for many of the families served by the Council of Social Concern’s Food Pantry. Children who receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch at school are now home for three meals a day, placing an extra financial burden on those who are already struggling to put food on the table. Your donation now will help to ensure that local children will have enough nutritious food to eat during the summer months. All non-perishable food within date will be accepted.

All donations can be dropped off at the CSC Food Pantry at 2 Merrimack Street in Woburn, Mondays-Fridays between 9:00-5:00 p.m.  If you wish to make a monetary donation, please make your check out to Council of Social Concern Food Pantry. For more information about donations please click here

Another Medeiros Crew Electronics and Appliance Recycling collection drive will be taking place this weekend on Saturday, June 15th from 9AM-1PM at Spence Farm. Proceeds will go towards the Council of Social Concern.

These collections have raised over $100,000 dollars for local Woburn organizations with a portion going to the Woburn high school scholarship fund!

If you have any old, broken or unused appliances simply taking up space, consider recycling them for a worthy cause. This collection drive is an excellent opportunity to recycle these items at a minimal cost compared to the high cost associated with curbside appliance recycling programs.

Take advantage of this beautiful spring weather by getting outside and volunteering at a local community garden!

The North Suburban YMCA is looking for volunteers on Friday, May 17th anytime between 8:30AM-6:00PM to help plant and finish prepping garden boxes at their community garden!
Volunteers may stay as long as they would like. Whole Foods Market in Woburn will also be stopping by to help out.

SCI and the YMCA teamed up last summer during National Volunteer Week to kick start the "Giving Garden," but volunteers are still needed to help maintain it throughout the summer. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Annie Medonis at

Another option for volunteers looking to help out at a community garden is at the Woburn Food Pantry's community garden plot! Last year, the Council of Social Concern hosted it and tons of volunteers came out to help make it a smashing success. Now, they are looking for new helpers this year to tend to the garden!

Volunteers can help out with planting, weeding, watering and harvesting the garden. If you are interested in volunteering at the community garden, please contact the garden coordinator Clarinda Massengill at (978) 761-0795 or

This year marks the 21st anniversary of the nation’s largest one-day food drive to benefit those in need – The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive conducted by the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Last year, this event resulted in 70 million pounds of non-perishable food collected, for a grand total of 1.2 billion pounds over two decades of collections!

This Saturday, May 11th, please consider supporting the Council of Social Concern's food pantry, which serves residents of Woburn and Winchester, by leaving non-perishable food items out for our Letter Carriers to pick up.

If you would like to make a monetary donation, please make your check payable to “Council of Social Concern Food Pantry” and leave it clearly marked for your Letter Carrier.
