Neighborhood Day Wrapup: Goodyear Pride Day

Submitted by Scott on Thu, 09/25/2008 - 1:22pm.

Goodyear kids help out! There were approximately 15 adults/parents/staff from the school and neighborhood around Goodyear and 25 children of various ages throughout the event. The balance of the work involved pruning a few of the trees, removing weeds and overgrowth that had overtaken some of the chain link fences. Au Bon Pain on Washington Street provided beverages and pastries for the volunteers.  We spread 5 yards of play surface mulch that had been donated over the play areas to bring up the levels and improve safety and appearance. We primed 4 sheets of plywood to get them ready to replace the 2 murals that have graced the Montvale Avenue side of the Goodyear School for more than 20 years. We removed a broken basketball hoop and a neighbor of the school, Rick Hawley, welded and repainted it. We were able to re-hang it the same day so the children could use it on Monday. A new one has been ordered to replace the missing one.

Neighborhood Day Wrapup: WREN Visibilty Site

Submitted by rodneyflynn on Thu, 09/25/2008 - 10:32am.

Community Members Cleaning Up!WREN Visibility Site Cleanup - September 20, 2008

Thank  you  to all the volunteers who helped at WREN's Visibility site clean up and flower bed planting this past Saturday, September 20th on Woburn's Neighborhood Day Weekend.  The visibility site is located off Route 128 , Rt 38 exit, EXIT 35, toward Woburn/Wilmington.

We had a good and productive day. Approximately 40 volunteers helped throughout the day long event. Volunteers worked from 9 AM to 3 PM digging out plants from the old flower beds and leveling off the soil. They then split the Stella D'oro daylilies, removed any visible weeds and sorted the daffodil and grape hyacinth bulbs for replanting. After shaping the new flower bed and making two large W's with the Stella D'oro daylilies the daffodil and hyacinth bulbs were replanted. Any left over plants and bulbs were given to some of the volunteers who took them home to plant in their yards.  read more »
