Welcome New AmeriCorps Members!
Welcome to our four new AmeriCorps members who have started their ten months of service in Woburn.
Heather Gately, Andrew Gibson, Caitlin O'Reilly, and Dirk Slagmolen are the new AmeriCorps members serving in Woburn. “We welcome life-long Woburn residents, Andrew, Heather, Dirk and Caitlin to the organization, and look forward to working with them for the next ten months,” said Crystal Johnson, SCI’s Flagship Program Director.
Previously, SCI has had only a handful of AmeriCorps members to serve throughout the organization. This year SCI is recruiting a total of twenty members to serve three different communities: Lynn, Dorchester, and Woburn. Four of the seven positions in Woburn have been filled, and SCI is still looking to fill the remaining three slots.
SCI held its AmeriCorps training and orientation at the Woburn Boys & Girls Club last week. “We have a dedicated and hard working group of individuals that plan to affect real change in our communities,” Johnson went on to say.
The members will spend their ten months of service placed here in Woburn. Heather and Andrew will be based at the SCI Woburn office connecting citizens utilizing outreach and technology, while Caitlin and Dirk will be based at the Boys & Girls Club of Woburn focusing on developing youth civic leadership skills.
Founded in 2002, SCI Woburn’s mission is to strengthen the community by connecting diverse individuals through civic engagement initiatives. Last year, SCI Woburn engaged over 2,300 Woburn residents in civic life, reaching or benefiting nearly 7,000.
There are three AmeriCorps service positions available in Woburn. Members will serve ten months, completing 1700 hours of service, from September 2007 to June 2008. They will receive a modest stipend, along with an educational award upon completion that can be used toward tuition or student loans. Interested applicants should visit the SCI website at www.sciwoburn.org to get more information about the positions available, and may then submit their resumes to Crystal Johnson at cjohnson@socialcapitalinc.org.
