Meet SCI's newest staff member, Amelia Walters! She will be taking on the role of SCI AmeriCorps Program Manager for the upcoming year. Amelia graduated from Franklin Pierce University with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a minor in Environmental Science. Throughout her college career she discovered many service opportunities, including coordinating two Alternative Spring Break trips to conduct projects with Habitat for Humanity. She met many AmeriCorps members along the way and knew that's what she wanted to do once she graduated.

As the SCI AmeriCorps Program Manager, Amelia will recruit AmeriCorps members to serve at SCI's partner sites across Eastern Massachusetts. Not only will she recruit and place these members, but also supervise and train them throughout their ten months of service. This includes connecting members to different organizations and individuals, as well as helping them to advance their careers.

After graduation, Amelia went on to serve two years as an AmeriCorps member, one with AmeriCorps Cape Cod and the second with SCI. With the AmeriCorps Cape Cod program Amelia served in Barnstable, focusing on environmental education, disaster preparedness and community engagement. With SCI AmeriCorps, she served as the Volunteer Outreach Coordinator at the Hockomock Area YMCA.

"SCI has a special place in my heart, and I have always loved connecting with others through community engagement. I have met so many different people because of service and most of those people are connected. I also loved connecting others with individuals who can help them grow and find what they need. Civic engagement has played a key role in my life and I am so excited to get the chance to continue to the next stages."

"Just like the members, I too want to grow as an individual. I want to learn as much as I can about the processes behind AmeriCorps and the Massachusetts Service Alliance. I am excited to finally be a part of the family. I want to grow and become better equipped at helping our service members!"

SCI is excited to have Amelia join the team and we know that she will do a fantastic job recruiting and supporting our AmeriCorps members! If you are interested in becoming a part of SCI AmeriCorps, or know anyone else who is, don't hesitate to contact us at americorps@socialcapitalinc.org. We are currently recruiting members for the 2017-2018 service year for a number of host sites across Eastern Massachusetts. Click here to learn more.
