A New Year Of Youth Council!
Interested in community service? Want to take a leadership role in your community? The Woburn Youth Council is looking for new members. If you are a Middle School or High School student and live in Woburn consider joining the Youth Council. Applications are available at the Woburn Boys & Girls Club, the North Suburban YMCA and Woburn Memorial High School and SCI's office.
The Woburn Youth Council (WYC), established in 2002, seeks to engage a diverse group of 12 to 18 year olds who share a desire to make a difference in their community. This program is coordinated by SCI and the Boys & Girls Club of Woburn, in partnership with the North Suburban Family YMCA, and funded by a grant from Community Health Network Alliance (CHNA 15).
The Youth Council will meet every other Tuesday at 7pm. Meetings usually last an hour. The Council participates in community service and civic engagment projects including the distribution and management of grants to other youth initiated projects, the Martin Luther King Day Civil Rights Forum, the annual Coat Drive and Relay for Life. The Woburn Youth Council also offers an outstanding opportunity to enhance leadership through the use of SCI's Civic Skills Checklist that provides a concrete means to build practical skills such as public speaking and event planning.
Remember, applications will be available at the Boys and Girls Club of Woburn, Woburn Memorial High School, the North Suburban YMCA and SCI’s office. Applications can be returned to the SCI Woburn office or to the Boys and Girls Club of Woburn. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, October 15th at 5pm.
