Neighborhood Day 2007
Thanks to all who participated in the 2007 Neighborhood Day!

SCI celebrated our third annual Neighborhood Day in Woburn this past weekend...
Neighborhood Day is an annual event celebrating the bonds we share as a community, while banding together to do something positive for our neighborhoods. Neighborhood day is a grassroots effort where local citizens receive “mini – grants” to create activities that celebrate civic engagement and community involvement. There is no better way to become active in your community and build relationships with your neighbors than Neighborhood Day.
2007 Project Locations:
Cell Phones for Soldiers Collection and Food Drive:
Over 60 cell-phones and accessories were collected to be sent to “Cell Phones for Soldiers” to help buy prepaid calling cards for the troops overseas. The event also included the collection of over 200 food items for the Council of Social Concern's Food Pantry.
Mt. Misery 16th Annual Block Party:
A block party was held at the corner of Arlington Street and Belmont Street with food, movies, music and activities including: relay races, pumpkin decorating, face painting, and a whipped cream pie eating contest.

Fortunate Neighbors Block Party:
Neighborhoods of Fortune, Dix, and Rich Roads held a block party with food, music, and activities including: a Corn Husking Contest, face painting, beading, painting, spin art, cotton candy and a bounce house. Residents also watched the Red Sox and BC games together.
South End Food Drive:
Residents from Richardson, Buck, Brooks, Ash, and Veteran's streets collected items for donation for the Council of Social Concern's Food Pantry. Snacks and beverages were for sale as well and all proceeds were donated to Social Concern.

Goodyear Elementary School Pride Day:
At the third annual School Pride Day, volunteers re-stained the older play equipment, repainted play areas and the back concrete stairs, scraped and repainted the portable classrooms, removed overgrowth and picked up trash. A bench honoring retiring teachers was also installed out front. Lunch was provided by The Bistro at Au Bon Pain and the Lowell Devils mascot Devil Dawg made an appearance.
Hiawatha Road:
Residents donated and assembled items to create care packages for Woburn troops serving overseas. They have done a similar project on past Neighborhood Days and the contributions have been very gratefully received by local service men and women.
