Local Author Book Reading and Signing at New Horizons
Want to learn more fascinating histories and mysteries of Woburn? This Friday, November 14th at the New Horizons building on 21 Warren Ave, local author Marie Coady will be having a reading from and signing copies of her new book, "Woburn: Hidden Tales of a Tannery Town". This event is a great opportunity to learn more about local history and share knowledge and ideas with other members of the community. It will be held at 7 PM. and all are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be provided at the event.
A brief except from the book - “Between 1890 and 1945, eighteen more [Woburn] citizens were claimed by Horn Pond. From fourteen-year-old Patrick Ryan, who came to celebrate the Fourth of July in 1906 and disappeared in the old “swimmin’ hole,” to twenty-year-old Arthur Gage, honor student and Class Prophet (Class of 1906), who along with friends dove off their boat to swim to Horn Pond Island and immediately sank out of sight, to the unidentified man whose body was found in September of 1942, floating twenty feet from the pumping station, the pond continued to claim victims and, to some minds, sacrifices.”
