Free Concert - Iyeoka Okoawo at Citizens Park
Location(s)
The Citizens Park Summer Concert Series kicks off this Friday, June 20, with Iyeoka Okoawo. The concert runs from 7-9 p.m. in Citizens Park, located on Main Street (Route 38) across from the Common. This first concert is sponsored by Woburn Mall/KGI Properties.
Boston-based Nigerian-American performing artist and award winning poet Iyeoka Okoawo is at the forefront of creating a new artistic genre that gracefully interweaves spoken word poetry with jazz, blues, gospel and neo-soul influenced song. A story teller to the core, Iyeoka's hope-filled poems come from within and build momentum with truth transformed into songs that reemerge as unique, emotionally complex gifts to her audience, touching on a wide range of issues-love, women, culture, struggle, relationships, among many others.
Bring your family, friends and lawn chairs to Citizens Park to enjoy free concerts every other Friday throughout the summer. With generous support from local businesses and the Woburn Cultural Council, the Concert Series is free to the public.
This is the sixth year that the Citizens Park Summer Concert Series will entertain Woburn residents. The concerts are a great way to enjoy summer nights with your fellow community members, and at the great location also a chance to shop and have dinner in Woburn Center.
“The Concert Series brings great music to Woburn Center,” commented SCI President David Crowley. “And, in keeping with our mission, it really brings people of all ages and backgrounds together.”
