Help Woburn High School Build a "Pathway to Knowledge"

brick pathThe Pathway to Knowledge at Woburn Memorial High School is entering the second phase of brick sales and will be ongoing until Jan. 15.   This is an opportunity for community members to become part of the Pathway and also help the Woburn High School’s Scholarship Fund (WHSSF).  Proceeds from the sales of the bricks benefit the WHSSF and graduating seniors every year. Hundreds of residents, students, and businesses that have already purchased a brick in the Pathway.  Purchasers can have a brick engraved with the name of a loved one, a family, a business or group name, with two or three lines.  The prices are $60 for two lines and $85 for three lines engraved.  read more »

Hilton's Holiday Wish Tree

presentThe Hilton Boston/Woburn is looking for help to assist children and families who are suffering from the current economic crunch. In coordination with the Council for Social Concern, on Monday, Dec. 1, the Hilton will raise a Holiday Wish Tree in the lobby of the hotel, located at 2 Forbes Road in Woburn. Adorning the 10-foot tree will be white and gold Holiday Wish Angels. The white Angels will have listed the first name of a family member who resides in Woburn and the surrounding communities, and the age of the person. An age-appropriate wish could be fulfilled with toys, clothing, electronic items, home goods and even school supplies. The Hilton is asking their patrons and the residents of Woburn to stop by the hotel at their convenience to select an Angel and fulfill a family’s Christmas Wish. The purchased gifts are to be brought back to the Hilton, unwrapped, with the original Wish Angel attached.  read more »

Mission of Deeds Fundraiser

mission of deeds logoOn Sunday, Nov. 23, the Winchester High School Symphony will be joined by the 80-voice Scituate High School Chorus for a performance of one of choral literature’s most well-known masterworks, Schubert’s Mass in G. The performance will take place at St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester, at 3 P.M.  The event is a fundraiser for the Mission of Deeds, a not-for-profit agency that provides furniture and other essential household items to those in need throughout Middlesex and Essex Counties.  read more »

Mission of Deeds Buy-a-Bed Campaign

bedAgain this year, Mission of Deeds is launching its Buy-a-Bed Campaign. The campaign is designed to raise funds that will be used to buy beds for mothers and their children, many of whom are starting a new life after living in a shelter for homeless or battered women. Nov. 17 through Dec. 31, residents of Reading and neighboring towns can help Mission of Deeds provide beds for families this holiday season by purchasing a “paper bed” for $1 at the following locations:  read more »

Coats for Kids Drive

Coats For KidsAnton’s Cleaners has launched its 14th annual Coats for Kids winter coat collection drive, with the goal set for this year’s collection at 60,000 coats. Now the largest coat drive of its kind in the Northeast, the program runs through Dec. 31. All donated coats may be dropped of at any Anton's Cleaners or Jordan's Furniture location.

“Coats for Kids faces some unique obstacles this year because of the times we live in,” says Charles A. Anton, CEO of Anton’s Cleaners. “But Coats for Kids has become a true community event over the years, involving schools, businesses, and local residents, all of whom want to help those in need.
