Walkin’ The Line will be playing the final show of the Horn Pond Summer Concert Series this Friday, August 16 at Horn Pond. This concert will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ice House Park section of Horn Pond, near the intersection of Beacon St. and Sturgis St. This concert is being sponsored by Lennon Insurance Agency and Arbella Charitable Insurance Group Foundation.

Walkin’ The Line is a high energy, modern top 40 country band taking New England by storm! Walkin’ The Line is an all-star lineup of musicians, bringing years of experience with some of the best bands around, and they are ready to bring their killer live show to Horn Pond! With influences ranging from Miranda Lambert to Carrie Underwood, Dierks Bentley to the Zac Brown Band, Walkin’ The Line is sure to keep you dancing all night!

This is the eleventh year that the Horn Pond Summer Concert Series will entertain Woburn residents. The concerts are a perfect way to spend summer nights with your fellow community members and enjoy the beautiful Horn Pond area. Bring your family, friends, and lawn chairs to Ice House Park to enjoy some live music. These concerts are free to the public due to the generous support from local businesses.

The Summer Concert Series is coordinated by Social Capital Inc. (SCI), North Suburban Y, Woburn Residents’ Environmental Network (WREN), and the City of Woburn. A special thank you goes out to the Woburn DPW for their logistical assistance.

Join the Woburn Historical Society for the Merry Minstrals’ 3rd annual summer musical program, “Songs Our Parents Taught Us”, this Sunday, August 11, 2013, at 7 pm, at the Burdett Mansion. 

Everyone is invited to sing along, so bring your family and friends! This free, one-hour performance will be followed by light refreshments.

The Blues for Veterans Association will be hosting the first ever Library Park Blues Festival on Saturday, August 24th from 11:00 a.m.- 11:00 p.m. at Harrison Ave. in Woburn.

Headlining the music festival will be Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters along with other entertaining Blues acts. Tickets are $20 per person and children under 12 attend for free. All profits from the festival will be donated to charitable organizations that support local veterans and their families such as: the American Legion Operation Comfort Warriors, H.O.T. (Helping Our Troops), Friends of Woburn Veterans and the Edith Norse VA Hospital in Bedford, MA.

There will also be a Friends of Woburn Veterans Motorcycle Run sponsored by Patriot Riders of America. Registration in the motorcycle run includes admission to the Blues Festival.

The Blues for Veterans Association was organized by local business women and men along with local citizens whose common goal is to show our veterans we care.

The YMCA International Learning Center in Woburn is offering free ESOL classes. There are morning classes available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m.- Noon and there are evening classes available on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

ESOL classes are run by experienced teachers who help the English language learner practice their English conversation skills. ESOL classes also help with reading and writing instruction, computer skills, job preparation skills, and information about American culture.

If you are interested in registering for free ESOL classes, please attend ONE registration date for the 2013-2014 school year on Tuesday, August 27th at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 28th at 9:30 a.m. or 6:30 p.m., or Thursday, August 29th at 9:30 a.m. Registration sessions will be held at the United Methodist Church, 523 Main St., Woburn.

Join the Woburn Senior Center (144 School St., Woburn) for their 2013 Fall Festival on Friday, September 20th starting at 9:00 a.m.! The festival takes place in recognition of National Senior Center Month.

Join the Middlesex Conservation District, a not for profit environmental agency, for its annual Fall Bulb and Perennial Sale on Friday, September 20th from 3:00-6:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 21st from 8:00 a.m. - Noon at the 4H Fairgrounds, 51 South Chelmsford Rd,
Westford, MA.

Items on sale will include tulips, narcissus, unusual bulbs, fall iris, perennials, and

The Council of Social Concern has just announced their Annual Golf Tournament sponsored by Skyworks Solutions, Inc. and Winchester Savings Bank. This year’s Philip J. Casey Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, September 23, 2013 at the Woburn Country Club.

Phil was past President of the Board of Directors for Council of Social Concern. Phil was the Golf Committee Chair for the agency’s first Golf Tournament in September 2006. He was an extremely kind, giving and hard-working individual who embodied so many of the Council of Social Concern’s core values.

All proceeds from this annual golf tournament will benefit the agency's programs, which provide hope, help and support to those most in need in our community. The Council of Social Concern's services include affordable childcare and preschool education, emergency and supplemental food assistance, parenting education, supervised visitation, and information & referral services.

Registration and a Continental Breakfast will begin the event at 6:45 a.m. followed by a Shotgun Start at 7:30 a.m. The event will be capped off with awards and a fabulous Barbeque Lunch.  Fees for the event are $125.00 per golfer or $475.00 per foursome which includes an 18 hole Scramble with a golf cart, continental breakfast and Barbeque Lunch. There are several levels of sponsorship available.
